Golden Poached Pears (D) Recipe
Recipe Ingredients
6 bosc, or other firm winter pear
1 cup semi-dry white wine, such as riesling
1 cup apple juice
1 large lemon, juice only
5 whole cloves

1 *mg chol
6 *mg sodium
5 *gm fiber
Recipe Preparation
Peel pears, leaving them whole. Using a melon baller, core pears
from the bottom up. Place in a saucepan and add wine, apple juice,
lemon juice and cloves.
Place pan over med-high heat and bring to a boil.
Lower heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for 25 to 30 minutes,
until pears are soft but not mushy.
Remove cloves from poaching liquid and spoon liquid over pears to
serve. Serves 6.
VARIATION: Omit lemon jice and substitute apple cide for the apple
juice.

Dieting made easyOne useful tip is to drink plenty of water. From time to time at some stage in a hectic morning, you guess that you want a snack but in fact you might just need a refreshing glass of water or orange squash. The feelings of needing food and needing a drink are quite similar, but one of the two can lead to a broken diet and the other is ok.
Some reduced carbohydrate diet pointers:
* Replace sugar with splenda. Many recipes that need sugar can be modified to make use of splenda instead. It is not exactly the same so you will need to do a bit of trial and error and it may not work for everything, but it gives pretty good results once you have it cracked.
* You can make delicious smoothies by using low carb yogurt. I know, you can't really describe it as cooking, but if you love smoothies you can make perfectly acceptable alternatives by using low carb yogurt and your favorite fruit. Obviously, you will need to ensure you use fruit that is low in carbohydrates and the whole fruit as the fiber will help.

These foods contain alpha-carotene and beta-carotene believed to play a major part in preventing cancer, particularly those cancers involving the lungs. Most also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your weight loss program.
