Food Tips of the Week
A few tips on healthy eatingIf you enjoy eating, but want to get in shape and improve your overall vitality, then, as most people know, you need to start a thoughtfully prepared well-balanced meal plan. In a perfect world, this needs to contain 5 standard portions of grains, fruit and vegetables daily and embrace the right proportion of food types.
Some lower carbohydrate diet pointers:
* Replace sugar with splenda. Recipes that call for sugar can be changed to make use of a sugar substitute like splenda. It has a different density so you will need to expirement with it and it might not be perfect for every dish, but it does a decent job most of the time.
* Use reduced carb chocolate for chocolate cookies and muffins. If you have taken the time to convert your tasty chocolate cookie or muffins recipe using soya flour, you really shouldn't mix in those high carb sugar-rich chocolate. Chop up a reduced carbohydrate chocolate bar into tiny pieces and use that as an alternative.
Foods rich in lycopene
(includes guava, red bell peppers & tomato puree)
The phytochemical lycopene is a non-synthetic coloring agent and one of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. It is the reason for the red hue of many food types.
Intrestingly, unlike numerous healthy agents, this useful phytochemical is not damaged if it is cooked, rather it is actually improved by being heated.
. Lycoprene's most interesting advantage is that it works as an antioxidant and seems to be of use in the battle to lower the risk of cancer.
Lycopene is the strongest quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It is also thought by many experts to block the progression of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels.
