Some things you have to do every day. Eating seven apples on Saturday night instead of one a day just isn't going to get the job done.
[Jim Rohn]

Watermelon --it's a good fruit. You eat, you drink, you wash your face.
[ Enrico Caruso]

Fruits are acceptable gifts, because they are the flower of commodities, and admit of fantastic values being attached to them. If a man should send to me to come a hundred miles to visit him, and should set before me a basket of fine summer-fruit, I should think there was some proportion between the labor and the reward.
[ Ralph Waldo Emerson]

Brandied Apple Rings

Ingredients

6 lb firm, red apples
4 cup sugar
3 cup water
1 red food coloring (optional)
1 cup brandy

Preparation

Wash and core apples; cut into 1/4 inch rings. Treat to prevent
darkening. Bring sugar and water to a boil; boil 5 minutes. Add food
coloring. Remove from heat, add rinsed and drained apple rings; let
stand 10 minutes. Return to heat; bring to a boil; then simmer 30
minutes or until rings are desired color. Remove from heat; cool to
room temperature. Remove apple rings from syrup. Bring syrup to a
boil; remove from heat; and stir in brandy. Pack apple rings loosely
into hot jars leaving 1/4 inch head space. Pour hot syrup over apple
rings, leaving 1/4 inch head space. Remove air bubbles. Adjust caps.
Process 15 minutes in boiling water bath. Yield: about 4 pints.
