Food Tips of the Week

The problems associated with low carb diets
Its extremely popular, but it is truly safe and healthy for you?
Cutting out carbs might mean missing out on vital nutrients from healthy carbohydrate foods which must be part of any well adjusted diet, in particular those obtained from vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
Even though there is evidence that illustrates that reduced carbohydrate diets may help with your diet, some of this evidence has caused much debate between nutritionalists, and their safety has been challenged

Diet tips

At the start of a diet, people most certainly look at food store and big brand food items labelled 'low in fat'. To do this is far too often a miscalculation, in that an item could be significantly reduced in fats, but nevertheless elavated in calories and carbs.
Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, white onions and welsh onion)

The onion, leek and garlic range of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer.
Although there is precious little real proof at hand, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce problems with colds, sterilization and fatigue.

Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every diet system.
